Al-Bayhaqi wrote in his book Al-Adab, Chapter on Envy:
Allah the Glorious, the Exalted said:باب: ترك الحسد والأمر بالاستعاذة من شر حاسد إذا حسدChapter: Leaving Envy and Affairs by seeking refuge from the Envier when he envies
The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ إلى قوله: وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَSay, I seek refuge with the Lord of the Dawn… from the Envier when he envies.[Surah Al-Falaq 113:1-5]
Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:ولا تحاسدواDo not envy.
[Sahih Muslim, Book 032, Number 6219]
Zubayr ibn Awwam reported: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: Beware of envy. For, indeed, envy eats at good deeds just as fire eats at wood or grass.
[Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 40, Number 4903]
The diseases of former peoples are creeping towards you, envy and hatred, and hatred is the razor. I do not say that it shaves hair, but rather it shaves the religion. And none of you has faith until he loves [for others what he loves for himself]. Shall I tell you what will establish that for you? Spread peace between yourselves.
