Hadith on Forgiveness: The Prophet pardons the Jewish woman who poisoned him to death

Anas ibn Malik reported: A Jewish woman came to the Prophet, peace be upon him, with a poisoned sheep and he ate from it. She was brought to him and it was said, “Should we kill her?” He said, “No.” I continued to see the effects of the poison upon the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

Hadith on Fasting: Recommendation to fast six days in the month following Ramadan

Abu Ayub Al-Ansari reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan and then follows it with six days of fasting during the month of Shawwal will be as if he fasted for the year.

Hadith on Animals: Fear Allah regarding the rights of animals and be kind to them

Sahl ibn Al-Hanzala reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, passed by a camel whose back had fallen to its stomach. He said, “Fear Allah concerning your animals. Ride them while they are in good condition and eat them while they are in good condition.

عَنْ سَهْلِ ابْنِ الْحَنْظَلِيَّةِ قَالَ مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِبَعِيرٍ قَدْ لَحِقَ ظَهْرُهُ بِبَطْنِهِ فَقَالَ اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ فِي هَذِهِ الْبَهَائِمِ الْمُعْجَمَةِ فَارْكَبُوهَا صَالِحَةً وَكُلُوهَا صَالِحَةً

سنن أبي داود كِتَاب الْجِهَادِ مر رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ببعير قد لحق ظهره ببطنه فقال اتقوا الله في هذه البهائم المعجمة فاركبوها صالحة وكلوها صالحة

Hadith on Warning: The Prophet was sent to warn people about Hellfire, just as a man warns his people about an enemy army

Abu Musa reported: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “Verily, the parable of what Allah has sent to me is that of a man who came to us and said: O people, I have seen an army with my eyes and I am a clear warner to you that you should immediately find a means of escape. A group of people among them paid attention and fled to a place of safety; and a group among them belied him and when the morning came, the army attacked them and they were routed. That is the parable of the one who obeys me and follows that with which I have been sent, and the parable of the other is the one who has disobeyed me and belied the truth with which I have been sent.

عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ مَثَلِي وَمَثَلَ مَا بَعَثَنِيَ اللَّهُ بِهِ كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ أَتَى قَوْمَهُ فَقَالَ يَا قَوْمِ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ الْجَيْشَ بِعَيْنَيَّ وَإِنِّي أَنَا النَّذِيرُ الْعُرْيَانُ فَالنَّجَاءَ فَأَطَاعَهُ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ فَأَدْلَجُوا فَانْطَلَقُوا عَلَى مُهْلَتِهِمْ وَكَذَّبَتْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْهُمْ فَأَصْبَحُوا مَكَانَهُمْ فَصَبَّحَهُمْ الْجَيْشُ فَأَهْلَكَهُمْ وَاجْتَاحَهُمْ فَذَلِكَ مَثَلُ مَنْ أَطَاعَنِي وَاتَّبَعَ مَا جِئْتُ بِهِ وَمَثَلُ مَنْ عَصَانِي وَكَذَّبَ مَا جِئْتُ بِهِ مِنْ الْحَقِّ

Hadith on Ramadan: The virtue of fasting during Ramadan and praying during the Night of Decree

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan out of faith and seeking reward, then Allah will forgive all of his previous sins; and whoever stands in prayer during the Night of Decree out of faith and seeking reward, then Allah will forgive all of his previous sins.

[Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Number 1664]

Hadith on Law: Do not neglect duties, transgress limits, or disrespect Allah’s silence


Abu Tha’laba Al-Khushani reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Indeed, Allah has made duties obligatory, so do not neglect them; and He has set limits, so do not transgress them; and He has remained silent concerning things as mercy for you, not out of forgetfulness, so do not search them out.

[Al-Daraqutani 4/184, Hasan]

عَنْ أَبِي ثَعْلَبَةَ الْخُشَنِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ فَرَضَ فَرَائِضَ فَلَا تُضَيِّعُوهَا وَحَدَّ حُدُودًا فَلَا تَعْتَدُوهَا وَحَرَّمَ أَشْيَاءَ فَلَا تَنْتَهِكُوهَا وَسَكَتَ عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ رَحْمَةً لَكُمْ غَيْرَ نِسْيَانٍ فَلَا تَبْحَثُوا عَنْهَا

An-Nawawi: The Unlawfulness of Cursing One Particular Man or Animal


Imam An-Nawawi recorded in Riyad us Saliheen the following chapter:
باب تحريم لعن إنسان بعينه أو دابة
Chapter: The unlawfulness of cursing a particular man or animal
Thabit ibn Ad-Dahhak Al-Ansari reported: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
مَنْ حَلَفَ بِمِلَّةٍ غَيْرِ الْإِسْلَامِ كَاذِبًا فَهُوَ كَمَا قَالَ وَمَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْسَهُ بِشَيْءٍ عُذِّبَ بِهِ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَعْنُ الْمُؤْمِنِ كَقَتْلِهِ وَمَنْ رَمَى مُؤْمِنًا بِكُفْرٍ فَهُوَ كَقَتْلِهِ

Al-Bayhaqi: Being Merciful to the Creation


Al-Bayhaqi رحمه الله records in his book Al-Adab, the Chapter on Mercy for the Creation:
باب‏:‏ في تراحم الخلق
Chapter on Being Merciful to the creation
Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه reported: I heard the Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وسلم say:
جَعَلَ اللَّهُ الرَّحْمَةَ مِائَةَ جُزْءٍ، فَأَمْسَكَ عِنْدَهُ تِسْعَةً وَتِسْعِينَ، وَأَنْزَلَ فِي الأَرْضِ جُزْءًا وَاحِدًا، فَمِنْ ذَلِكَ الْجُزْءِ يَتَرَاحَمُ الْخَلْقُ حَتَّى تَرْفَعَ الْفَرَسُ رِجْلَهَا عَنْ وَلَدِهَا خَشْيَةَ أَنْ تُصِيبَهُ‏

Al-Bayhaqi: Leaving Envy and Hatred by seeking refuge from the Envier when he envies


Al-Bayhaqi wrote in his book Al-Adab, Chapter on Envy:
باب‏:‏ ترك الحسد والأمر بالاستعاذة من شر حاسد إذا حسد
Chapter: Leaving Envy and Affairs by seeking refuge from the Envier when he envies
Allah the Glorious, the Exalted said:
 ‏قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ‏ إلى قوله‏:‏ ‏‏وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ‏
Say, I seek refuge with the Lord of the Dawn… from the Envier when he envies.
[Surah Al-Falaq 113:1-5]

Al-Bayhaqi: Love for people what you love for yourself


Al-Bayhaqi recorded in his book Al-Adab, Chapter on Love for one’s Brother:
باب‏:‏ لا يؤمن أحدكم حتى يحب لأخيه ما يحب لنفسه
Chapter: None of you have faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself
Anas ibn Malik reported: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:
لا يُؤْمِنُ أَحَدُكُمْ حَتَّى يُحِبَّ لأَخِيهِ مَا يُحِبُّ لِنَفْسِهِ‏
None of you have faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.
[Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, Number 15]

Ibn Taymiyyah: Righteousness is to fulfill the Rights of Allah and the Rights of His servants


Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله writes in his Kitab Al-Iman [English translation and Arabic text below]:
The following words – “righteous,” “witness,” and “truthful,” – may be cited separately to refer to the Prophets. Allah the Exalted says about Al-Khalil (the Prophet Abraham):


وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَإِنَّهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ لَمِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ
We gave him his reward in the world and, indeed, in the Hereafter he will be one of the righteous.
[Surah Al-Ankabut 29:27]

Hadith on Gratitude: Thanking people is part of thanking Allah

Abu Hurairah reported: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “He has not thanked Allah who has not thanked people.”
[Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 40, Number 4811]
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ‏ لاَ يَشْكُرُ اللَّهَ مَنْ لاَ يَشْكُرُ النَّاسَ

Hadith on Family: The best of you are the best to their family, and do not abuse the dead

Aisha reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “The best of you are the best to their families, and I am the best to my family. When your companion dies, then leave him alone.”

[Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Book 46, Number 3895, Sahih]

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ  قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَيْرُكُمْ خَيْرُكُمْ لِأَهْلِهِ وَأَنَا خَيْرُكُمْ لِأَهْلِي وَإِذَا مَاتَ صَاحِبُكُمْ فَدَعُوهُ
قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ صَحِيحٌ

Hadith on Prayer: How the Prophet would open his night prayer with supplications for guidance

Abdurahman ibn Awf reported: I asked Aisha, mother of the believers, about words which the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, used to open his prayer when he would stand at night. She said: When he would stand at night, he would open his prayer by saying, “O Allah, Lord of Gabriel, Michael, and Israfel; Originator of the heavens and the earth; Knower of the unseen and the seen; You judge between Your servants concerning that in which they differ. Guide me, by your leave, in what people differ concerning the truth. Indeed, You guide whom You will to the straight path.”

[Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Number 1694]

أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ كَانَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَفْتَتِحُ صَلَاتَهُ إِذَا قَامَ مِنْ اللَّيْلِ قَالَتْ كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ مِنْ اللَّيْلِ افْتَتَحَ صَلَاتَهُ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ جَبْرَائِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ وَإِسْرَافِيلَ فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ أَنْتَ تَحْكُمُ بَيْنَ عِبَادِكَ فِيمَا كَانُوا فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ اهْدِنِي لِمَا اخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ مِنْ الْحَقِّ بِإِذْنِكَ إِنَّكَ تَهْدِي مَنْ تَشَاءُ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ

Hadith on Humanity: Allah created all races from a single person, Adam

Abu Musa Al-Ashari reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Indeed, Allah the Exalted created Adam from a handful which He took from the earth, so the children of Adam come in accordance with the earth. Some come with red skin, white skin or black skin and whatever is in between; thin, thick, filthy, and clean.

عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ قَالَ  قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى خَلَقَ آدَمَ مِنْ قَبْضَةٍ قَبَضَهَا مِنْ جَمِيعِ الْأَرْضِ فَجَاءَ بَنُو آدَمَ عَلَى قَدْرِ الْأَرْضِ فَجَاءَ مِنْهُمْ الْأَحْمَرُ وَالْأَبْيَضُ وَالْأَسْوَدُ وَبَيْنَ ذَلِكَ وَالسَّهْلُ وَالْحَزْنُ وَالْخَبِيثُ وَالطَّيِّبُ
قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

Hadith on Reliance: If Muslims work for their provision like the birds do, then Allah will provide

Umar ibn Al-Khattab reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “If you were to rely upon Allah with reliance due to Him, then He would provide for you just as He provides for the birds. They go out in the morning with empty stomachs but return full.

[Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Book of Asceticism, Number 2344, Sahih]

عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَوْ أَنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَوَكَّلُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ حَقَّ تَوَكُّلِهِ لَرُزِقْتُمْ كَمَا يُرْزَقُ الطَّيْرُ تَغْدُو خِمَاصًا وَتَرُوحُ بِطَانًا

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

سنن الترمذي كِتَاب الزُّهْدِ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَاب فِي التَّوَكُّلِ عَلَى اللَّهِ

Hadith on Muhammad: Bless the Prophet once and Allah will bless you ten times

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “He who sends blessings upon me once will have Allah send blessings upon him ten times.

Hadith on Friendship: The Parable of a Good Friend and a Bad Friend


Abu Musa narrated: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, The parable of a good friend and a bad friend is that of a carrier of musk and a blacksmith. The carrier of musk will give you some, or you will buy some, or you will notice a good smell; but as for the blacksmith, he will burn your clothes or you will notice a bad smell.

[Sahih Muslim, Book 32, Number 6361]

عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ‏ إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ الْجَلِيسِ الصَّالِحِ وَالْجَلِيسِ السَّوْءِ كَحَامِلِ الْمِسْكِ وَنَافِخِ الْكِيرِ فَحَامِلُ الْمِسْكِ إِمَّا أَنْ يُحْذِيَكَ وَإِمَّا أَنْ تَبْتَاعَ مِنْهُ وَإِمَّا أَنْ تَجِدَ مِنْهُ رِيحًا طَيِّبَةً وَنَافِخُ الْكِيرِ إِمَّا أَنْ يُحْرِقَ ثِيَابَكَ وَإِمَّا أَنْ تَجِدَ رِيحًا خَبِيثَةً
