Ibn Taymiyyah: Good Character is the Creed of the Salaf


Sheikh ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said in Al-Aqidah Al-Wasitiyyah:
By these principles [Ahl us-Sunnah wal Jama’ah] encourage well-known righteous deeds and forbid evil deeds in accordance with what is ordained by the Sharia. And they believe in practicing Hajj (pilgrimage) and Jihad (struggle for the cause of Allah), in attending Friday communal prayers and the holidays with the leaders, be they pious or wicked, and in observing the community prayers. They believe in advising the Ummah (nation of Muslims), and they firmly believe in the Prophet’s صلى الله عليه وسلم saying:

Hadith on Islam: Islam is built upon the Five Pillars of Monotheism, Prayer, Charity, Fasting, and Pilgrimage

Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Islam is built upon five: worshipping Allah alone and disbelieving in what is worshipped besides him, establishing prayer, paying charity, performing the pilgrimage, and fasting the month of Ramadan.”

[Sahih Muslim, Book 1, Number 18]

عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ  عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ بُنِيَ الْإِسْلَامُ عَلَى خَمْسٍ عَلَى أَنْ يُعْبَدَ اللَّهُ وَيُكْفَرَ بِمَا دُونَهُ وَإِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ وَحَجِّ الْبَيْتِ وَصَوْمِ رَمَضَانَ

Umar ibn Abdul Aziz: Islam is fulfilled by performing duties, respecting limits and following traditions

Ibn Kathir reported: Umar ibn Abdul Aziz (d. 101H/720CE) said, “Indeed, faith is obligations, laws, limits and traditions. Whoever perfects them has perfected faith, but whoever does not perfect them will not have perfect faith.”

[Ibn Kathir, Al-Bidayah wa An-Nihayah 668]

Hadith on Eid: Today is a Day of Celebration and Happiness


Aisha reported: Abu Bakr came to her on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr or Eid-ul-Adha while the Prophet, peace be upon him, was with her and there were two girls singing songs of the Ansar on the day of Bu’ath. Abu Bakr said twice, “Musical instruments of Satan!” But the Prophet said, “Leave them Abu Bakr. Indeed, for every people have an Eid (celebration) and this day is our Eid.

[Sahih Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 58, Number 268]

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ، دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا وَالنَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عِنْدَهَا يَوْمَ فِطْرٍ أَوْ أَضْحًى، وَعِنْدَهَا قَيْنَتَانِ ‏{‏تُغَنِّيَانِ‏}‏ بِمَا تَقَاذَفَتِ الأَنْصَارُ يَوْمَ بُعَاثَ‏.‏ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مِزْمَارُ الشَّيْطَانِ مَرَّتَيْنِ‏.‏ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏”‏ دَعْهُمَا يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ، إِنَّ لِكُلِّ قَوْمٍ عِيدًا، وَإِنَّ عِيدَنَا هَذَا الْيَوْمُ ‏‏‏

Hadith on Pilgrimage: Do not perform a religious journey except to the Sacred Masajid in Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem


Abu Huraira reported: I heard from the Prophet, peace be upon him, that he said, “Do not undertake a (religious) journey except to three mosques: this mosque of mine (in Medina), the Sacred Mosque (in Mecca), and the Farthest Mosque (in Jerusalem).

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ  يَبْلُغُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تُشَدُّ الرِّحَالُ إِلَّا إِلَى ثَلَاثَةِ مَسَاجِدَ مَسْجِدِي هَذَا وَمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَى

صحيح مسلم كتاب الحج باب لا تشد الرحال إلا إلى ثلاثة مساجد
