Hadith on Modesty: Modesty is part of Faith

Ibn Umar reported: The Prophet, peace be upon him, passed by an Ansari man who was admonishing his brother about modesty. The Messenger of Allah said, “Let him be, for modesty is part of faith.”

[Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 40, Number 4795]

 عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَرَّ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ وَهُوَ يَعِظُ أَخَاهُ فِي الْحَيَاءِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم دَعْهُ فَإِنَّ الْحَيَاءَ مِنَ الإِيمَانِ

Hadith on Moderation: Good form, good bearing, and moderation are part of Prophethood

Abdullah ibn Abbas reported: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “Good form, good bearing, and moderation are the twenty-fifth part of Prophecy.”

[Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 41, Number 4758]

عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ إِنَّ الْهَدْىَ الصَّالِحَ وَالسَّمْتَ الصَّالِحَ وَالاِقْتِصَادَ جُزْءٌ مِنْ خَمْسَةٍ وَعِشْرِينَ جُزْءًا مِنَ النُّبُوَّةِ

Hadith on Rights: The roads have rights, so fulfill their rights

Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Beware of sitting in the roads.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, we have nowhere else to sit and talk.” So he said, “If you insist, then give the road its right.” They said, “And what is its right, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “Lower the gaze, avoid harming others, return greetings of peace, enjoining the good, and forbidding the evil.”


[Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 40, Number 4815]

عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْجُلُوسَ بِالطُّرُقَاتِ ‏ ‏.‏ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا بُدٌّ لَنَا مِنْ مَجَالِسِنَا نَتَحَدَّثُ فِيهَا ‏.‏ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ إِنْ أَبَيْتُمْ فَأَعْطُوا الطَّرِيقَ حَقَّهُ ‏ ‏.‏ قَالُوا وَمَا حَقُّ الطَّرِيقِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ‏ غَضُّ الْبَصَرِ وَكَفُّ الأَذَى وَرَدُّ السَّلاَمِ وَالأَمْرُ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَالنَّهْىُ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ

Hadith on Shame: A person without shame will do whatever he pleases

Abu Mas’ud Uqbah reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Verily, among the words people obtained from the first prophecy are: if you feel no shame, then do as you wish.”

[Sahih Bukhari, Book 56, Number 690]

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ عُقْبَةُ قَالَ  قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ مِمَّا أَدْرَكَ النَّاسُ مِنْ كَلَامِ النُّبُوَّةِ إِذَا لَمْ تَسْتَحْيِ فَافْعَلْ مَا شِئْتَ

صحيح البخاري كِتَاب أَحَادِيثِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ عذبت امرأة في هرة

Hadith on Hijab: The women among the Companions would veil themselves out of modesty

Aisha said: May Allah have mercy on the foremost women of the Muhajirun! When Allah revealed the verse, “Draw their cloaks over their bodies,” (24:31) they cut their sheets and veiled themselves with them.

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ يَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ نِسَاءَ الْمُهَاجِرَاتِ الْأُوَلَ لَمَّا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلَى جُيُوبِهِنَّ  شَقَّقْنَ مُرُوطَهُنَّ فَاخْتَمَرْنَ بِهَا
