Hadith on Charity: Charity does not decrease wealth, forgiveness and humility increase honor

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Charity does not decrease wealth, no one forgives except that Allah increases his honor, and no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah except that Allah raises his status.

Hadith on Humility: Do not respond to insults, for two people who revile each other are devils

Iyad ibn Himar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Verily, Allah has revealed to me that you should be humble, such that none of you transgresses or boasts against another.” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, what do you think about a man who reviles me in a lowly assembly and I respond to him; am I incurring sin?” He said, “Two people who revile each other are two devils who accuse and deny each other.

[Al-Bukhari, Al-Adab Al-Mufrad, Number 428, Sahih]

عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ حِمَارٍ قَالَ‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَوْحَى إِلَيَّ أَنْ تَوَاضَعُوا حَتَّى لاَ يَبْغِيَ أَحَدٌ عَلَى أَحَدٍ وَلاَ يَفْخَرَ أَحَدٌ عَلَى أَحَدٍ فَقُلْتُ‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلاً سَبَّنِي فِي مَلَأٍ هُمْ أَنْقُصُ مِنِّي فَرَدَدْتُ عَلَيْهِ هَلْ عَلَيَّ فِي ذَلِكَ جُنَاحٌ‏ قَالَ‏ الْمُسْتَبَّانِ شَيْطَانَانِ يَتَهَاتَرَانِ وَيَتَكَاذَبَانِ

Hadith on Neighbors: Do not belittle any gift to a neighbor no matter how small

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, used to say, “O Muslim women, do not belittle any gift for your neighbor, even a sheep’s hoof.

An-Nawawi: The Virtue of Spreading Peace Among People, To Those You Know and Those You Do Not Know


Imam An-Nawawi wrote in his Sharh Sahih Muslim [Arabic text and English translation below]:
As for his saying, peace be upon him,:
أَفْشُوا السَّلَامَ بَيْنَكُمْ

Hadith on Gratitude: Thanking people is part of thanking Allah

Abu Hurairah reported: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “He has not thanked Allah who has not thanked people.”

Hadith on Prayer: How the Prophet would open his night prayer with supplications for guidance

Abdurahman ibn Awf reported: I asked Aisha, mother of the believers, about words which the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, used to open his prayer when he would stand at night. She said: When he would stand at night, he would open his prayer by saying, “O Allah, Lord of Gabriel, Michael, and Israfel; Originator of the heavens and the earth; Knower of the unseen and the seen; You judge between Your servants concerning that in which they differ. Guide me, by your leave, in what people differ concerning the truth. Indeed, You guide whom You will to the straight path.”

[Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Number 1694]

Hadith on Modesty: Modesty is part of Faith

Ibn Umar reported: The Prophet, peace be upon him, passed by an Ansari man who was admonishing his brother about modesty. The Messenger of Allah said, Let him be, for modesty is part of faith.”

 عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَرَّ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ وَهُوَ يَعِظُ أَخَاهُ فِي الْحَيَاءِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم دَعْهُ فَإِنَّ الْحَيَاءَ مِنَ الإِيمَانِ

Hadith on Authority: The Prohibition of Desiring Power and Authority over People

Narrated Abu Musa : Two of my cousins and I entered (the house of) the Prophet. One of them said: “Messenger of Allah, appoint us rulers of some lands that the Almighty and Glorious God entrusted to your care.” The other also said something similar. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: “Without doubt, by Allah, we do not appoint anyone to this position who asks for it or desires it.”

Hadith on Prayer: Prayers are partially rewarded if they lack complete humility and concentration

Amir ibn Yasir رضى الله عنه reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم saying, “Indeed, a person may finish (the prayer) and nothing is recorded for him except a tenth, or a ninth, or an eighth, or a seventh, or a sixth, or a fifth, or a fourth, or a third, or a half.”

[Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 2, Number 796, Grade: Hasan]

Hadith on Destiny: O Allah, save me from the evil of what You have decreed


Hasan ibn Ali reported: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم taught me some words to say in the Witr prayer, “O Allah, guide me among those you have guided; pardon me among those you have pardoned; protect me among those you have protected; bless me in what you have given me; and save me from the evil of what You have decreed. Indeed, you (alone) decree and none can pass decree upon you. Indeed, he cannot be humiliated who is protected by You. Blessed are You, our Lord, the Exalted.”

قَالَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا  عَلَّمَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَلِمَاتٍ أَقُولُهُنَّ فِي الْوِتْرِ اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ وَعَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ فَإِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلَا يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ وَإِنَّهُ لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ تَبَارَكْتَ رَبَّنَا وَتَعَالَيْتَ

Hadith on Moses: Do not make Muhammad superior to Moses because Moses will be by the Throne on the Day of Resurrection

Abu Huraira reported: Two people, one Jewish and the other Muslim, fell into dispute and began to abuse one another. The Muslim said, “By Him Who chose Muhammad in the worlds.” And the Jew said, “By Him Who chose Moses in the worlds.” Then the Muslim slapped the face of the Jew. The Jew went to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and told him about the incident, so he said, “Do not say I am better than Moses for mankind will faint (on the Day of Judgment) and I will be the first to recover, and Moses at that time will be holding the side of the Throne. I do not know if he would faint and recover before me, or if Allah will make an exception for him.

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ  اسْتَبَّ رَجُلَانِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْيَهُودِ وَرَجُلٌ مِنْ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَقَالَ الْمُسْلِمُ وَالَّذِي اصْطَفَى مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ وَقَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ وَالَّذِي اصْطَفَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ قَالَ فَرَفَعَ الْمُسْلِمُ يَدَهُ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ فَلَطَمَ وَجْهَ الْيَهُودِيِّ فَذَهَبَ الْيَهُودِيُّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِمَا كَانَ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ وَأَمْرِ الْمُسْلِمِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تُخَيِّرُونِي عَلَى مُوسَى فَإِنَّ النَّاسَ يَصْعَقُونَ فَأَكُونُ أَوَّلَ مَنْ يُفِيقُ فَإِذَا مُوسَى بَاطِشٌ بِجَانِبِ الْعَرْشِ فَلَا أَدْرِي أَكَانَ فِيمَنْ صَعِقَ فَأَفَاقَ قَبْلِي أَمْ كَانَ مِمَّنْ اسْتَثْنَى اللَّهُ
