Hadith on Justice: The Prophet loved a pre-Islamic confederacy, Hilf Al-Fudoul, which pledged justice for all people

Talha ibn Awf reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Certainly, I witnessed in the house of Abdullah ibn Jud’an a confederacy which was more beloved to me than a herd of red camels; and if I were called to it now while in Islam, I would respond.

Hadith on Fasting: All deeds are for the children of Adam except for fasting which is for Allah

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: Allah Almighty said, “All the deeds of the children of Adam are for them, except fasting which is for Me, and I will give the reward for it.” The Messenger of Allah said further, “Fasting is a shield. If one of you is fasting, he should avoid sexual relations with his wife and arguments. If somebody should fight or argue with him, he should say: I am fasting. By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, the unpleasant smell coming from the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight of Allah than the smell of musk. There are two pleasures for the fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast and the other when he meets his Lord; then he will be pleased because of his fasting.”

[Sahih Muslim, Book 6, Number 2566]

Good Muslim, Good Human Being

By Khaled Baig at OnIslam

Ihsan is a special Islamic term, defined by the famous hadith known as the Hadith of Jibreel.
Once Angel Jibreel (peace be upon him) visited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the guise of a man and in the presence of the Companions. This happened toward the end of the Prophetic mission and its purpose was to summarize some fundamental teachings of Islam for the education of all of us.

Above All, See Others as Human Beings

By Sheikh Salman al-Oadah at Islam Today

Once, while sitting in a public venue, a young man was seated next to me who behaved quite strangely. He looked unbearably sad and distraught. He recoiled from everyone around him, as if he thought that everyone was out to cause him injury. It then occurred to me that this young man was closed off to any possibility of positive engagement with others. In order to reach out to this person, you would first have to know how to get through the barriers that he has erected around himself.
There may be a person who you want to do business with, or who you need to cooperate with in some scientific project or cultural event. Or you may want to call that person to righteousness, or protect that person from harm. Or maybe that person may be able to help you in some way and you wish to ask for help. Or maybe you know there is some way you can help that person.

Al-Bayhaqi: Love for people what you love for yourself

Al-Bayhaqi recorded in his book Al-Adab, Chapter on Love for one’s Brother:
Chapter: None of you have faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself
Anas ibn Malik reported: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:
None of you have faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.
[Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, Number 15]

How Should I Deal with my Non-Muslim Neighbors?

Ibn Al-Qayyim: The Sharia is based upon justice, mercy, welfare and wisdom

Ibn Al-Qayyim (d.751H/1350CE) said, “Indeed, the Sharia is founded upon wisdom and welfare for the servants in this life and the afterlife. In its entirety it is justice, mercy, benefit, and wisdom. Every matter which abandons justice for tyranny, mercy for its contrary, benefit for corruption and wisdom for foolishness is not a part of the Sharia even if it was introduced therein by an interpretation.”

[Ibn Al-Qayyim, I’lam Al-Muwaqqi’in ‘an Rabb Al-Alamin]

Umar ibn Abdul Aziz: The Prophet is a caller to Allah, not a tax collector

Ibn Kathir reported: Umar ibn Abdul Aziz (d. 101H/720CE) said, “Indeed, Allah has only sent Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, as a preacher and He did not send him as a tax collector.”

Hadith on Humanity: Allah created all races from a single person, Adam

Abu Musa Al-Ashari reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Indeed, Allah the Exalted created Adam from a handful which He took from the earth, so the children of Adam come in accordance with the earth. Some come with red skin, white skin or black skin and whatever is in between; thin, thick, filthy, and clean.
