Hadith on Reward: A double reward for People of the Book who embrace Islam, an honest servant, and a man who educates and marries his servant girl

Abu Burda reported from his father: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Three persons will receive a double reward: a man from the People of the Book who believes in his prophet and believes in Muhammad; a servant owned by his master who fulfills the rights of Allah and his master; and a man who owns a servant girl and he mentors her, teaches her beautiful manners, and educates her in the best way, then he emancipates her and marries her. These will have a double reward.”

[Sahih Bukhari, Book 3, Number 97]

Why Islam? Fasting the month of Ramadan

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It begins with the sighting of the new moon after which all physically mature and healthy Muslims are obliged to fast for the complete month. Fasting is done as an act of worship and obedience to Allah (God). Between dawn and sunset, Muslims abstain from all food, drink and any kind of sexual contact. In addition to this physical component, the spiritual aspects of the fast include an added emphasis on refraining from gossip, lies, obscenity and in general, any sinful act.

Hadith on Allah: There is nothing greater than to testify that Allah is One

Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: Moses said, “My Lord, teach me something with which I can remember You and call upon You.” Allah said, “Say: there is no God but Allah.” Moses said, “My Lord, all Your servants say this.” Allah said, “O Moses, if the seven heavens along with their inhabitants besides Me and the seven earths were to be upon a scale, and the statement that there is no God but Allah, they would be outweighed by the saying: there is no God but Allah.

[Sahih Ibn Hibban, Number 6218, Sahih]

Hadith on Moses: Do not make Muhammad superior to Moses because Moses will be by the Throne on the Day of Resurrection

Abu Huraira reported: Two people, one Jewish and the other Muslim, fell into dispute and began to abuse one another. The Muslim said, “By Him Who chose Muhammad in the worlds.” And the Jew said, “By Him Who chose Moses in the worlds.” Then the Muslim slapped the face of the Jew. The Jew went to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and told him about the incident, so he said, “Do not say I am better than Moses for mankind will faint (on the Day of Judgment) and I will be the first to recover, and Moses at that time will be holding the side of the Throne. I do not know if he would faint and recover before me, or if Allah will make an exception for him.
[Sahih Muslim, Book 30, Number 5854]
