Hadith on Miracles: The tree bears witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah

Ibn Umar reported: We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, on a journey and a bedouin passed by us. When he came near, the Prophet said, “Where are you going?” He said, “I am going to my people.” The Prophet said, “Would you like to bring goodness with you?” He said, “What is it?” The Prophet said, “That you witness there is no God but Allah alone without any partners and that Muhammad is the servant of Allah and His Messenger.” He said, “Who will bear witness to what you say?” The Prophet said, “This tree is a witness.” The Prophet called the tree from the edge of the valley and it ploughed through the earth as it came until it stood before him. The Prophet asked for its testimony and it bore witness three times that he is the Messenger of Allah. Then it returned to the place where it grew. The Bedouin returned to his people and he said, “If they follow me, I will bring them all to you. Otherwise, I will return alone with you.”

Hadith on Sunnah: Whoever revives a Sunnah will have the reward of everyone who acts upon it

Kathir ibn Abdullah reported: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said to Bilal, “Know.” He said, “What should I know, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “Know, O Bilal!” He said, “I am ready to know, O Messenger of Allah.” The Prophet said, “Verily, whoever revives a tradition (sunnah) from among my traditions which has died after me, then he will have a reward similar to whoever acts upon it without taking anything away from their rewards; and whoever introduces an innovation with which Allah and His Messenger are not pleased, then he will have a sin similar to whoever acts upon it without taking anything away from the sins of the people.”

Hadith on Love: Love for people what you love for yourself and you will be a Muslim

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Who will these words and act upon them or teach someone to act upon them?” I said, “I will, O Messenger of Allah.” So he taught me five sayings, “Beware of what is unlawful and you will be the best worshipper among the people; be satisfied with what Allah has given you and you will be the richest of the people; be kind to your neighbor and you will be a believer; love for the people what you love for yourself and you will be a Muslim; and do not laugh too often, for indeed, too much laughter will deaden the heart.

Ibn Kathir: Do not force anyone to become a Muslim, for Islam is clear

Ibn Kathir said: Allah Almighty said, “There is no compulsion in religion (2:256),” which means, “Do not force anyone to become Muslim, for Islam is plain and clear, and its proofs and evidence are plain and clear. Therefore, there is no need to force anyone to embrace Islam. Rather, whoever Allah directs to Islam, opens his heart for it and enlightens his mind, will embrace Islam with certainty. Whoever Allah blinds his heart and seals his hearing and sight, then he will not benefit from being forced to embrace Islam.”

[Tafsir Ibn Kathir, verse 2:256]

Hadith on Reward: A double reward for People of the Book who embrace Islam, an honest servant, and a man who educates and marries his servant girl

Abu Burda reported from his father: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Three persons will receive a double reward: a man from the People of the Book who believes in his prophet and believes in Muhammad; a servant owned by his master who fulfills the rights of Allah and his master; and a man who owns a servant girl and he mentors her, teaches her beautiful manners, and educates her in the best way, then he emancipates her and marries her. These will have a double reward.”

Hadith on Justice: The Prophet loved a pre-Islamic confederacy, Hilf Al-Fudoul, which pledged justice for all people

Talha ibn Awf reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Certainly, I witnessed in the house of Abdullah ibn Jud’an a confederacy which was more beloved to me than a herd of red camels; and if I were called to it now while in Islam, I would respond.

Hadith on Pardon: The Messenger of Allah forgives the polytheist who tried to murder him

Jabir reported: We took part in the expedition with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, against Najd and when the time for afternoon rest approached, he was in a valley of thorny trees. He dismounted under a tree to rest in its shade and hung his sword upon it. The people dispersed among the trees in order to use their shade. While we were like this, the Messenger of Allah called us and we came to find a Bedouin sitting in front of him. The Messenger of Allah said, “This person came to me while I was asleep and he quietly took my sword. I woke up while he was standing over my head, holding my unsheathed sword. He said: Who will protect you from me? I said: Allah, three times.” And the Messenger of Allah did not punish him.

[Sahih Bukhari, Book 59, Number 460]

In another narration, the polytheist said, “Who will protect you from me?” The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Allah the Exalted.” Then the sword fell from his hand and the Messenger of Allah seized it. He said, “Who will protect you from me?” The polytheist said, “Be good to me!” He said, “Will you bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I am the Messenger of Allah?” He said, “No, but I give you my word that I will not fight you and I will not join anyone who is fighting you.” So the Messenger of Allah let him on his way. The polytheist returned to his people and said, “I have just come to you from the best of people!”

Ibn Taymiyyah: The believers reconcile people, give charity, and behave with good character

Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728AH/1328CE) wrote in his text book on Islamic Creed, “The believers encourage people to reconcile relations with those who have cut them off, to give charity to those who have deprived them, and to forgive those who have oppressed them. They order people to keep benevolence with parents, to uphold ties of family, to be benevolent with neighbors, to be kind with orphans, travelers and the poor, and to be gentle with servants. They forbid bragging, arrogance and transgression. They discourage people from feeling superior over others, rightly or wrongly. And they bid people use lofty manners and prohibit them from pursuing trifles. All that they say or do from the above (good character) or from other teachings, in all of it they follow the Book and the Sunnah. Their path is the religion of Islam, for which Allah sent Muhammad, peace be blessings be upon him.”

[Ibn Taymiyyah, Al-Aqidah Al-Wasitiyyah]

Ibn Rajab: Those who love Allah are compassionate with sinners and wish them well

Ibn Rajab (d. 795H/1392CE) reported: Some of the righteous predecessors said, “The people who love Allah look by the light of Allah, and they are compassionate with those who disobey Allah. They hate their actions but show mercy to them so that through their admonitions they might leave their actions. They are afraid that the Hellfire will consume their bodies. The believer will not truly be a believer until he is pleased for people to have what he is pleased for himself. If he sees in someone else some merit by which they excel him, then he wishes the like of it for himself. If that merit is related to the religion then it is good.”

Hadith on Knowledge: The Superiority of the Scholar over the Worshipper, Blessings upon those who teach Good

Abu Umama Al-Bahili reported: Two men were mentioned before the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, one of them a worshipper, the other a scholar. So the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “The superiority of the scholar over the worshipper is like my superiority over the least of you.” Then he said, “Indeed, Allah, His angels, and the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth – even the ant in his hole, even the fish – send blessings upon the one who teaches people to do good.”
Al-Fudayl ibn Iyad would say, “A scholar who works in teaching has a high status in the domains of the heavens.”

Hadith on Mercy: The Angel of the Mountains offered to destroy the disbelievers but the Prophet had mercy on them

Aisha reported: She asked the Prophet , “Have you encountered a day harder than the battle of Uhud?” The Prophet, peace be upon him, replied, “Your tribes have troubled very much, and the worst was the day of ‘Aqaba when I presented myself to Ibn Abd-Yalail ibn Abd-Kulal and he did not respond to what I intended. So I departed, overwhelmed with excessive sorrow, and I could not relax until I found myself at Qarnath-Tha-alib where I lifted my head towards the sky to see a cloud shading me. I looked up and saw Gabriel in it. He called me saying, “Allah has heard your people’s saying to you and how they have replied. Allah has sent the Angel of the Mountains to you that you may order him to do whatever you wish to these people.” The Angel of the Mountains greeted me, and said, “O Muhammad, order what you wish. If you like, I will let the mountains fall on them.” The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “No, I hope that Allah will bring from their descendants people who will worship Allah alone without associating partners with Him.”

Hadith on Judgment: The Prophet was sent to warn about punishment in the Hereafter

Ibn Abbas reported: One day the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, ascended mount As-Safa and he called out, “O people! Come at once!” So the Quraish gathered before him. He said, Indeed, I am ‘a warner to you before the coming of a severe punishment.’ (34:46) Do you think that if I told you that the enemy was preparing to attack you in the morning or evening you would believe? Abu Lahab said, “Is it for this that you have called us? May you perish!” So Allah revealed the verse, “Perish the hand of Abu Lahab!” (111:1).

Narrated Abu Huriarah: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: “Indeed, this religion is ease, and no one burdens himself in religion but that it overcomes him.
