Hadith on Sunnah: Let me not find one of you rejecting the traditions of the Prophet

Abu Rafi’ reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Let me not find one of you reclining on his couch and when he is informed of a command which I have commanded, he says: I do not know this, for we only follow what we find in the Book of Allah.”

عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ مُتَّكِئًا عَلَى أَرِيكَتِهِ يَأْتِيهِ الْأَمْرُ مِمَّا أَمَرْتُ بِهِ أَوْ نَهَيْتُ عَنْهُ فَيَقُولُ لَا أَدْرِي مَا وَجَدْنَا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ اتَّبَعْنَاهُ

Hadith on Sunnah: Whoever grasps the Quran and the Prophetic Tradition will never go astray

Malik ibn Anas reported: It reached him that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “I have left among you two matters which will never lead you astray as long as you hold to them: the Book of Allah and the tradition of His Prophet.”

Hadith on Quran: Tranquility descends upon recitation of the Quran and Surah Al-Kahf

Al-Bara reported: A man was reciting Surah Al-Kahf and there was a horse tied with two ropes at his side, a cloud overshadowed him, and it came nearer and nearer as his horse became frightened of it. He went to the Prophet, peace be upon him, in the morning and mentioned that to him. He said, “Continue reciting so-and-so. Verily, that was tranquility which came down for the recitation of the Quran.”

[Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Number 1739]

الْبَرَاءَ يَقُولُ  قَرَأَ رَجُلٌ الْكَهْفَ وَفِي الدَّارِ دَابَّةٌ فَجَعَلَتْ تَنْفِرُ فَنَظَرَ فَإِذَا ضَبَابَةٌ أَوْ سَحَابَةٌ قَدْ غَشِيَتْهُ قَالَ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ اقْرَأْ فُلَانُ فَإِنَّهَا السَّكِينَةُ تَنَزَّلَتْ عِنْدَ الْقُرْآنِ أَوْ تَنَزَّلَتْ لِلْقُرْآنِ

Hadith on Quran: Learn Al-Baqarah and Ali Imran for its reciters will ascend the ranks of Paradise

Abu Abdullah ibn Burayda reported: I was sitting in the presences of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and I heard him say, “Learn Surah Al-Baqarah because there is blessing in learning it, there is sorrow in ignoring it, and the magicians cannot confront it.” He remained for an hour and then he said, “Learn Surah Al-Baqarah and Ali Imran because they are two lights and they shade their people on the Day of Resurrection just as two clouds, two spaces of shade or two lines of birds. On the Day of Resurrection, the Quran will meet its companion in the shape of a pale-faced man when his grave is opened. The Quran will ask him: Do you know me? The man will say: I do not know you. The Quran will say: I am your companion, the Quran, which has brought you thirst during the heat and made you stay up during the night. Every merchant has his certain trade, but this Day, you are behind all types of trade. Then, kingship will then be given to him in his right hand, eternal life in his left hand and the crown of grace will be placed on his head. His parents will also be granted two garments that the people of this world could never afford. They will say: Why were we granted these garments? It will be said: Because your son was carrying the Quran. It will be said (to the reciter of the Quran): Read and ascend through the levels of Paradise. He will go on ascending as long as he recites, whether reciting slowly or quickly.”

عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ تَعَلَّمُوا سُورَةَ الْبَقَرَةِ فَإِنَّ أَخْذَهَا بَرَكَةٌ وَتَرْكَهَا حَسْرَةٌ وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُهَا الْبَطَلَةُ قَالَ ثُمَّ مَكَثَ سَاعَةً ثُمَّ قَالَ تَعَلَّمُوا سُورَةَ الْبَقَرَةِ وَآلِ عِمْرَانَ فَإِنَّهُمَا الزَّهْرَاوَانِ يُظِلَّانِ صَاحِبَهُمَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ كَأَنَّهُمَا غَمَامَتَانِ أَوْ غَيَايَتَانِ أَوْ فِرْقَانِ مِنْ طَيْرٍ صَوَافَّ وَإِنَّ الْقُرْآنَ يَلْقَى صَاحِبَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ حِينَ يَنْشَقُّ عَنْهُ قَبْرُهُ كَالرَّجُلِ الشَّاحِبِ فَيَقُولُ لَهُ هَلْ تَعْرِفُنِي فَيَقُولُ مَا أَعْرِفُكَ فَيَقُولُ لَهُ هَلْ تَعْرِفُنِي فَيَقُولُ مَا أَعْرِفُكَ فَيَقُولُ أَنَا صَاحِبُكَ الْقُرْآنُ الَّذِي أَظْمَأْتُكَ فِي الْهَوَاجِرِ وَأَسْهَرْتُ لَيْلَكَ وَإِنَّ كُلَّ تَاجِرٍ مِنْ وَرَاءِ تِجَارَتِهِ وَإِنَّكَ الْيَوْمَ مِنْ وَرَاءِ كُلِّ تِجَارَةٍ فَيُعْطَى الْمُلْكَ بِيَمِينِهِ وَالْخُلْدَ بِشِمَالِهِ وَيُوضَعُ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ تَاجُ الْوَقَارِ وَيُكْسَى وَالِدَاهُ حُلَّتَيْنِ لَا يُقَوَّمُ لَهُمَا أَهْلُ الدُّنْيَا فَيَقُولَانِ بِمَ كُسِينَا هَذِهِ فَيُقَالُ بِأَخْذِ وَلَدِكُمَا الْقُرْآنَ ثُمَّ يُقَالُ لَهُ اقْرَأْ وَاصْعَدْ فِي دَرَجَةِ الْجَنَّةِ وَغُرَفِهَا فَهُوَ فِي صُعُودٍ مَا دَامَ يَقْرَأُ هَذًّا كَانَ أَوْ تَرْتِيلًا

مسند أحمد بَاقِي مُسْنَدِ الْأَنْصَارِ تعلموا سورة البقرة فإن أخذها بركة وتركها حسرة

Hadith on Quran: Satan runs away from the house in which is recited Surah Al-Baqarah

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Do not turn your houses into graves. Verily, Satan flees from the house in which is recited Surah Al-Baqarah.”

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا تَجْعَلُوا بُيُوتَكُمْ مَقَابِرَ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَنْفِرُ مِنْ الْبَيْتِ الَّذِي تُقْرَأُ فِيهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ

Hadith on Quran: Surah Al-Mulk will intercede for its reciters until they are forgiven

Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “There is a Surah in the Quran of thirty verses which will intercede for its companion until he is forgiven: Blessed is He in whose Hand is the kingdom (67:1).”

[Sunan Abu Dawud, Book of Prayer, Number 1400, Hasan]

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ سُورَةٌ مِنْ الْقُرْآنِ ثَلَاثُونَ آيَةً تَشْفَعُ لِصَاحِبِهَا حَتَّى يُغْفَرَ لَهُ تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ

سنن أبي داود كِتَاب الصَّلَاةِ أَبْوَابُ قِرَاءَةِ الْقُرْآنِ وَتَحْزِيبِهِ وَتَرْتِيلِهِ سورة من القرآن ثلاثون آية تشفع لصاحبها حتى يغفر له تبارك الذي بيده الملك

Hadith on Quran: It is enough virtue to recite the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah in the night

bu Mas’ud reported: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah in the night will be sufficed by them.”

عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ قَرَأَ بِالْآيَتَيْنِ مِنْ آخِرِ سُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ كَفَتَاهُ

Hadith on Paradise: Surah Al-Mulk will intercede with its reciters until they enter Paradise

عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وآله وَسَلَّمَ سُورَةٌ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هِيَ إِلَّا ثَلَاثُونَ آيَةً خَاصَمَتْ عَنْ صَاحِبِهَا حَتَّى أَدْخَلَتْهُ الْجَنَّةَ وَهِيَ سُورَةُ تَبَارَكَ

مَنِ اسْمُهُ سُلَيْمَانُ المعجم الصغير الطبراني

Hadith of Supplication: Whoever says this, Allāh will replace his affliction with happiness

Abdullāh narrated: The Messenger of Allāh, peace be upon him, said, “If any Muslim is afflicted with distress and makes this supplication, then his supplication will be answered: O Allāh, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command concerning me prevails, and Your decision concerning me is just. I call upon You by every one of the beautiful names with which You have described Yourself, or which You have revealed in Your Book, or have taught anyone of Your creatures, or which You have chosen to keep in the Knowledge off the Unseen with You, to make the Qurān the delight of my heart, the light of my chest, and remove any grief, sorrows, and afflictions.” He said, “[If he says this] Allāh will remove one’s affliction and replace it with joy and happiness.” They said, “O Messenger of Allāh, should we not learn it?” He said, “Yes, whoever hears it should know it.”

[Musnad Ahmad, Number 3704]

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ  قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا أَصَابَ أَحَدًا قَطُّ هَمٌّ وَلَا حَزَنٌ فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي عَبْدُكَ وَابْنُ عَبْدِكَ وَابْنُ أَمَتِكَ نَاصِيَتِي بِيَدِكَ مَاضٍ فِيَّ حُكْمُكَ عَدْلٌ فِيَّ قَضَاؤُكَ أَسْأَلُكَ بِكُلِّ اسْمٍ هُوَ لَكَ سَمَّيْتَ بِهِ نَفْسَكَ أَوْ عَلَّمْتَهُ أَحَدًا مِنْ خَلْقِكَ أَوْ أَنْزَلْتَهُ فِي كِتَابِكَ أَوْ اسْتَأْثَرْتَ بِهِ فِي عِلْمِ الْغَيْبِ عِنْدَكَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ الْقُرْآنَ رَبِيعَ قَلْبِي وَنُورَ صَدْرِي وَجِلَاءَ حُزْنِي وَذَهَابَ هَمِّي إِلَّا أَذْهَبَ اللَّهُ هَمَّهُ وَحُزْنَهُ وَأَبْدَلَهُ مَكَانَهُ فَرَجًا قَالَ فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلَا نَتَعَلَّمُهَا فَقَالَ بَلَى يَنْبَغِي لِمَنْ سَمِعَهَا أَنْ يَتَعَلَّمَهَا

Khutbah Al-Hājah: How to Begin a Khutbah Sermon in Arabic and English

All thanks and praise is due to Allah, whom we seek His help and forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from whatever evil our hearts conceal and from the consequences of our evil deeds. Whoever Allah grants guidance will never be led astray. Whoever He leads astray will never find guidance. I attest that none is worthy of worship except Allah, who has no partners, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].

[Surah Ali Imran 3:102]

O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah , through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.

[Surah An-Nisa 4:1]

O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.

[Surah Al-Ahzab 33:70-71]

Indeed, the most truthful speech is the Book of Allah, the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad, and the worst affairs are newly invented matters. Every newly invented matter is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Hellfire.

إن الحمد لله نحمده ونستعينه ونستغفره، ونعوذ بالله من شرور أنفسنا ومن سيئات أعمالنا، من يهده الله فلا مضل له، ومن يضلل فلا هادي له، وأشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له وأشهد أن محمداً عبده ورسوله.

يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ وَلا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلا وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ

يَاأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَخَلَقَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا وَبَثَّ مِنْهُمَا رِجَالا كَثِيرًا وَنِسَاءً وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ الَّذِي تَسَاءَلُونَ بِهِ وَالأَرْحَامَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيبًا

يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَقُولُوا قَوْلا سَدِيدًا يُصْلِحْ لَكُمْ أَعْمَالَكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَمَنْ يُطِعِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَقَدْ فَازَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا

فإن أصدق الحديث كتاب الله، وأحسن الهدي هدي محمد – صلى الله عليه وسلم -، وشر الأمور محدثاتها، وكل محدثةٍ بدعةٍ، وكل بدعةٍ ضلالةٍ، وكل ضلالةٍ في النار،

Hadith on Purification: Purity is half of Faith, Prayer is Light, Charity is Proof, and Patience is Illumination

Abu Malik al-Ash’ari reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Purity is half of Faith and al-Hamdu Liliah (praise be to Allah) fills the scale, and Subhan Allah (glory be to Allah) and al-Hamdu Liliah fill up what is between the heavens and the earth, and prayer is a light, and charity is proof (of sincere faith), and patience is illumination, and the Qur’an is a proof for you or against you. All people go out early in the morning and sell themselves, either setting themselves free or destroying themselves.”


[Sahih Muslim, Book 2, Number 432]

عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الطُّهُورُ شَطْرُ الْإِيمَانِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ تَمْلَأُ الْمِيزَانَ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ تَمْلَآَنِ أَوْ تَمْلَأُ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَالصَّلَاةُ نُورٌ وَالصَّدَقَةُ بُرْهَانٌ وَالصَّبْرُ ضِيَاءٌ وَالْقُرْآنُ حُجَّةٌ لَكَ أَوْ عَلَيْكَ كُلُّ النَّاسِ يَغْدُو فَبَايِعٌ نَفْسَهُ فَمُعْتِقُهَا أَوْ مُوبِقُهَا

Hadith on Quran: The reason the Bismillah is missing from Surah At-Tawba is because Uthman thought it could be part of Surah Al-Anfal

Ibn Abbas said: I said to Uthman ibn Affan, “What is your reasoning with Surah Al-Anfal, which has less than a hundred verses, and Surah Bara’ah (At-Tawba), which has more than a hundred verses, yet you put them together without writing in the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful between them and you placed them with the seven long Surahs. Why did you do that?” Uthman said, “A long time might pass with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, without anything being revealed to him, and then sometimes a Surah with numerous verses might be revealed. So when something was revealed he would call for someone who could write and tell them to put these verses in the Surah which mentions this and that. When a verse was revealed, he would tell them to put this verse in the Surah which mentions this and that. Al-Anfal was among the first to be revealed in Medina, and Bara’ah was among the last of those revealed of the Quran and their discussions resemble each other, so we thought that they were part of each other. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, died and it was not clear to us if they were part of each other. For this reason, we put them together without writing in the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful and we included them with the seven long Surahs.”

ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ  قُلْتُ لِعُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ مَا حَمَلَكُمْ أَنْ عَمَدْتُمْ إِلَى الْأَنْفَالِ وَهِيَ مِنْ الْمَثَانِي وَإِلَى بَرَاءَةٌ وَهِيَ مِنْ الْمِئِينَ فَقَرَنْتُمْ بَيْنَهُمَا وَلَمْ تَكْتُبُوا بَيْنَهُمَا سَطْرَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَوَضَعْتُمُوهَا فِي السَّبْعِ الطُّوَلِ مَا حَمَلَكُمْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِمَّا يَأْتِي عَلَيْهِ الزَّمَانُ وَهُوَ تَنْزِلُ عَلَيْهِ السُّوَرُ ذَوَاتُ الْعَدَدِ فَكَانَ إِذَا نَزَلَ عَلَيْهِ الشَّيْءُ دَعَا بَعْضَ مَنْ كَانَ يَكْتُبُ فَيَقُولُ ضَعُوا هَؤُلَاءِ الْآيَاتِ فِي السُّورَةِ الَّتِي يُذْكَرُ فِيهَا كَذَا وَكَذَا وَإِذَا نَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ الْآيَةَ فَيَقُولُ ضَعُوا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ فِي السُّورَةِ الَّتِي يُذْكَرُ فِيهَا كَذَا وَكَذَا وَكَانَتْ الْأَنْفَالُ مِنْ أَوَائِلِ مَا أُنْزِلَتْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَكَانَتْ بَرَاءَةٌ مِنْ آخِرِ الْقُرْآنِ وَكَانَتْ قِصَّتُهَا شَبِيهَةً بِقِصَّتِهَا فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهَا مِنْهَا فَقُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَمْ يُبَيِّنْ لَنَا أَنَّهَا مِنْهَا فَمِنْ أَجْلِ ذَلِكَ قَرَنْتُ بَيْنَهُمَا وَلَمْ أَكْتُبْ بَيْنَهُمَا سَطْرَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ فَوَضَعْتُهَا فِي السَّبْعِ الطُّوَلِ

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

Hadith on Prayer: It is an obligation to recite Surah Al-Fatihah in every prayer

Ubada ibn Samat reported: It has reached us from the Prophet, peace be upon him, “There is no prayer for one who does not recite the opening of the Book (Surah Al-Fatihah).”

[Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Number 771]

عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ يَبْلُغُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا صَلَاةَ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَقْرَأْ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ
